Walleye Weekend Grand Giveback Winner 2014

While nearly a hundred thousand people attend Walleye Weekend each year, many don’t know what one of the area’s largest festivals is really all about. Originating in 1977, Walleye Weekend is one of Fond du Lac’s largest fundraising events for non-profit and not-for-profit organizations that serve the Fond du Lac community.

The free family festival offers fun events throughout the weekend, including live music, children’s activities, a fishing tournament, and more, all to raise money to benefit a variety of local programs and activities. It’s because of its purpose and strong roots in the community that CitizensFirst Credit Union has been a proud, long-time supporter of the event.

As a financial cooperative, CitizensFirst is obligated to operate under the Cooperative Principles by giving back to the communities we serve, a responsibility we take very seriously.  We decided to put the seventh Cooperative Principle, Concern For Community, into action at Walleye Weekend with The Grand Giveback.

The Grand Giveback is an opportunity for non-profits to tell their unique stories and earn a chance to win $1,000 to further their mission. Representatives from Fond du Lac Festivals and K107/KFIZ, along with a host of Fond du Lac dignitaries, reviewed the amazing entries and had the nearly impossible task of selecting one to win the $1,000 prize. Truly, every story that was submitted brought a sense of pride for all the work these area organizations do to benefit the community.

We’re extremely proud to announce that the inaugural winner of the CitizensFirst Grand Giveback is the Fond du Lac Public Library! Watch the video below and learn how kids in Fond du Lac will benefit from the Library’s programming, partially funded by The Grand Giveback prize money.

On behalf of all of us here at CitizensFirst, we’d like to congratulate the organizations that submitted a story  and we look forward to awarding another organization $1,000 at the 2015 Walleye Weekend event.
